The prime location of our properties between Cefalù and Lascari offers our guests a rare opportunity: to experience the sophistication of the Sicilian coast without sacrificing the timeless charm of the inland countryside. Both towns are part of an enviable area that brings together millennia of history, natural wonders and unrivalled culinary delights: the Madonie Natural Park. To help you experience all this to the full, we have put together a calendar of unmissable events so you can discover the wonders of the region for yourself.
In April, the community of Cerda celebrates its finest produce. The Artichoke Festival is an unmissable event for lovers of traditional cuisine. We recommend immersing yourself in the village’s festive atmosphere to sample the local specialities, a testament to the agricultural biodiversity that the Madonie proudly protect.
In June, ephemeral art comes to life in Castelbuono. The Infiorata transforms the historic centre into an open-air art gallery. It is the ideal time for a cultural visit that includes tasting the world-famous artisan panettone and a stop at the village’s refined bistros, surrounded by the beauty of the floral mosaics.
The month of August is marked by centuries-old rituals. In Cefalù, the ‘Ntinna a mari on 6 August is one of Sicily’s most spectacular maritime traditions, an event steeped in emotion and local identity. The challenge, dedicated to the Holy Saviour, sees young local fishermen compete in a test of extreme balance: a long wooden log, generously coated in grease and soap, is suspended horizontally over the water at the old pier. The aim is to traverse the entire length of the slippery pole to grab the flag at the end, before sliding into the sea amidst the shouts and cheers of the crowd.
Moving towards the ‘Alte Madonie’, the Salt Festival in Petralia Soprana (Raffo hamlet) offers an immersion in the culture of salt, with events celebrating the local mines, an industrial and natural gem of the region.
After so many culinary delights, September invites you to get active with Kefitness in Cefalù, an event that combines physical activity with breathtaking scenery. With numerous stands set up along the beautiful seafront, you’ll be able to practise yoga, Pilates, various types of dance and many other fitness-related activities.
With the arrival of the first autumn fruits, the hinterland becomes a destination for elite gastronomic tourism. The Madonie Flavours Festival in Petralia Sottana and the Mushroom Festival in Castelbuono mark the culmination of a year dedicated to flavour. With mycological exhibitions and gourmet trails, autumn in the Madonie is a celebration of the produce of the woodlands and the culinary traditions of the highlands.
